REVIEW: The Gospel According to Lost

Author: Sam | Filed under: Uncategorized

I was interested as soon as the commercials began airing in 2005 for a new show called “Lost”. A group of individuals surviving a terrible plane crash and having to learn how to live/coexist on a remote island seemed like an interesting concept for a show. After watching the first few episodes though, I realized there was much more going on than what I had originally expected.

In the book, “The Gospel According to Lost”, Chris Seay weaves the storylines and characters of the best show on television into a conversation about our own lives.

How we view “others”.
How we try to mask our inadequacies.
How we live out the gospel message.

In Chapter 6, which is a character profile on Sawyer, he has this quote:

“Lost forces us to forgive, forget, and move forward, believing in change and hope.”

We root for the bad guys who try to do the right thing because we identify with them and see them as somewhat misunderstood.

In this book, Chris Seay does an incredible job digging deep into the minds of the writers. His understanding of all of the little things that are easily missed, in a show that lives up to it’s name, could rival any other “Lost” fanatic out there.

If you want to have a better understanding of the secrets of the island and the characters of the show, read this book.

If you are looking for a better way to view life and to see the beauty in the story of others, read this book.

I am sure this is a book I will continue to flip through as I watch the final season of “Lost”.
